Hi MJ,

Just sending this email to find out how you are and to send you a few photos from our trip. Thanks for showing us around Xian - we had a fabulous time and saw a lot of things that we didn't even know about such as the Banpo Museum.

Beijing was very cold when we got up there but we still went out sightseeing. We were absolutely freezing when we were at the Summer Palace - there was still ice on the water - so we rugged up a bit more the next day to go to the Great Wall which was just amazing.

After that we went to Koh Samui in Thailand and managed to warm up a bit before coming home. I even volunteered to have an elephant massage during a show which was something very different. All I could do was laugh as the elephant kept sucking on my arms and neck with his trunk at the same time, but it was an experience you don't get to have every day.

Things have been very busy since we came home. John had to fly back to Germany three days after we got home which was a bit unexpected so it was all a bit of a rush. Anyway, he's back now so things are getting back to normal.

I hope that you're well and kept busy doing your tour guide work.

Donna (and John)

Itinerary: 13 Days Budget of Beijing - Datong - Luoyang - Xian – Beijing

The meals were great. There was always plenty of food and the restaurants were always very nice. The one meal that I would recommend to my friends/family was the fried chicken, rice, soup, etc. I was impressed with all of the meals. Even the breakfast that was provided at the hotels was always very nice.

All of our guides were very professional. They were all very knowledgeable and were able to explain the history behind all of the places that we went to. I learned so much from them and was interested in everything that they told us. All of the guides were able to answer any questions that we may have had.

All of the drivers were very nice and the cars were very clean.

Besides Beijing, Datong was probably my favorite place to visit. Our Guide Judy was very nice and helpful. While on the tour, we took 4 trains. 2 of the trains were overnight, the train from Datong to Luoyang was from 11:30pm-11:30am while the one from Xian to Beijing was from 8:30pm to 7:45am. Both of us enjoyed the train from Xian to Beijing much more because we hung out, went to sleep, and when we woke up we were at our destination. The train from Datong to Luoyang wasn't as nice because we arrived at the train station 3 hours early and just sat there. I would suggest making most of the overnight trains earlier (like the one from Xian to Beijing).
