   Chongqing is a port city with the largest municipal area and population in China. It is 
situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers in southwest China.Chongqing is located in the subtropical climate zone. The climate belongs to the humid sub-tropical monsoon climate. The annual average temperature is around 18 degrees.

Tourism
Yangtze River Cruises

   YaTraversing eleven provinces of China, the Yangtze River divides China into northern and southern parts. Winding 3,900 miles, it is the largest river in China and the third largest in the world after the Nile in Africa and the Amazon in South America.  Originating from  the Tanggula Range in Qinghai Province, the Yangtze River flows into the East Sea from Shanghai. Branches of the Yangtze River include Min River, Jialing River, Wu River, Xiang River, Gan River and Huangpu River. In Jiangsu Province, it meets the Grand Canal in Zhenjiang City.
    The Yangtze River is divided into three reaches including the upper, middle and lower reaches. Each reach has different characters and scenery.

Dazu Rock Carvings
Location
   The Dazu Rock Carving is located in the southeast of the Sichuan Basin, 271 kilometers away from the west of Chengdu, 167 kilometers away from the east of Chongqing. The Dazu Rock Carving lies in Dazu County, which is 167 kilometers away from the urban area of Chongqing city. It's a general designation of the stone statues distributed in 76 places in the whole Dazu County. The number of the stone statues amounts to 60,000.
Transportation
   It's the most convenient to take a bus from Chongqing to Dazu. It just takes 2 hours to arrive there. There are tens of buses in the Chongqing West Bus Station.
Attractions
   Dazu is the home of rock carving, with more than 40 rock carvings and over 50,000 statues. Among them, two rock carvings, which are the most famous and on the biggest scale, are Baodingshan and Beishan. There are nearly 10,000 stone statues in Beishan. They mainly gather in Fowan, which is a U-shaped section of about 500 meters long and looks like a new moon. These rock carvings here were excavated in the Jingfu time of the Song Dynasty (A.D.892).

Ciqikou Ancient Town
   Situated on the bank of the Jia Ling River, not far from its confluence with the mighty Yangtze is the ancient village of Ci Qi Kou, formerly known as Long Yin. Covering an area of some 1.2 square kilometres (291.6 acres) it is 14 kilometres to the west of Chongqing Municipality.
   The history of Ci Qi Kou can be traced back for more than 1700 years. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911) it was famous for its production of porcelain. Here you will find many outlets for craftwork, groceries and the like as well as a horologist, photography supplies, drugstore and a tempting supply of roasted nuts and seeds.
   The three notable attractions of the village are the tea bars, the artists' studios and the Shu Embroidery workshops. Surprisingly, there are more than a hundred tea bars each with their own particular characteristics. Here friends enjoy a chat or meet to discuss business. So the tea bars offer the opportunity for you to meet the locals and also become acquainted with the unique folk opera.

Dining
   As one branch of Sichuan cuisine, Chongqing cuisine is noted for its distinctive spicy and pungent flavors. Different from Chengdu cuisine, Chongqing dishes are spicier and stronger in taste. Chili pepper, sesame, fermented black beans, scallions, ginger, garlic, wine, soy sauce and an array of flavorings are used in almost 40 different cooking methods. These methods include drying, salting, spicing, pickling, frying and smoking. Color, smell, flavor, shape, and nutrition are all carefully balanced in Chongqing dishes - no wonder people say that Chongqing food is not only attractive but nutritious.

Chongqing Hotpot
   With the spicy and hot characteristic, Chongqing Hotpot can be regarded as one wonder of Chinese food.  Chongqing Hotpot is mainly divided into two kinds-one is red soup and the other is clear soup. The red soup is mainly characterized by being spicy, delicious and fragrant, while the clear soup is mainly characterized by light color and delicious taste. Yuanyang Hotpot is the combination of these two kinds of soup. Namely, the hotpot is divided into two parts by an s-shaped metal slice and forms a pattern of Taiji. The colors of the two parts are distinct, with a half white and a half red. Chongqing Hotpot can use many things as materials. "Hun" (meat or fish diet) can be taken from poultry, domestic animal, viscera organ and aquatic products. Almost all vegetables can be used as the vegetable dish. As regards oil dish, Chongqing people like to mix castor oil with crushed garlic. It has the function of clearing away heat and can make the taste more delicious.

Shopping
   As a large metropolis, Chongqing boasts rich natural resources and local specialties, making it a good place to do some shopping. Surrounded by mountains, it has rare Chinese traditional herbal medicines in these parts including the rhizome of Chinese goldthread (huanglian), Gastrodia elata (tianma) and the bark of eucommia (duchong). The fertile land here is also ideal for the fruit growing, such as orange, pear, pomelo and persimmon. Chongqingalso has a long history as a major tea producing area. Tuo Tea, Cuiping Silver Needle Tea and Xinong Maojian Tea all enjoy high prestige both at home and abroad. Gourmets are also well catered for Old Sichuan translucent beef slices, Peiling mustard tuber and Hechuan preserved pear slices. Folk handicraft in Chongqing has long been highly regarded. Since the Southern Song Dynasty (1127AD-1279AD), Shu Embroidery (also known as Sichuan Embroidery) has been ranked among the four most famous styles of embroidery in China, along with Suzhou Embroidery, Hunan Embroidery and Cantonese Embroidery. Rongchang-paper fan has also been exported since Qing Dynasty (1644AD-1911AD).

Transportation
Air
   Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is located in the Lianglu town in the Yubei district of Chongqing. It's 23 kilometers away from the urban area. There is a highway directly to the urban area. It cost around 100 yuan to take a ride from the airport to the downtown. There are flights to more than 40 large and medium cities in China. The airport also open a few international flights to Nagoya, Bangkok.
Waterway
   The Chongqing Chaotianmen Dock, at the junction of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River, is one of the busiest ports in China.There are four categories of ships: the star-rated ship, the foreign tourist ship, the domestic tourist ship, and the common passenger ship. The foreign tourist boat is graded from one-star to five-star. The price of this boat is much higher. The domestic tourist boat owns facilities of performing various functions, which can provide travelers with all kinds of services.
City Bus
   Normally, buses run from 05:30 to 21:00 and the ticket fare is CNY1 to CNY2. There are other options such as minibuses, air conditioned buses, and tourist routes.
In fact, city buses in Chongqing are classified into ordinary, medium-grade and high-grade vehicles. The medium ones correspond to air-conditioned buses in other cities. The starting fare is CNY1.5 and a little bit higher than ordinary ones. However, Medium-grade buses look new and more comfortable. There is a sigh on the front window indicating the bus grade. Buses with two red stars are medium-grade.
Taxi
   The taxis in Chongqing are yellow. Normally the base price is CNY 5 for the beginning 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) and CNY1.8 for each additional kilometer.CNY 5 toll should be paid when you cross the Yangtze River Bridge or the Jialing River Bridge. The rate from 22:00 to 06:00 is slightly higher. Usually, a short journey within 10 kilometers (about 6.miles) costs no more than CNY 20.
