    Air
    Beijing Capital Airport (Tel: 64653604), is the largest airport in China. It locates about 25 kilometers (16 miles) northeast of downtown Beijing. Beijing Capital International Airport Co. Ltd has 38 major foreign cooperative airline companies, 21 domestic airlines, 1 Hong Kong airline and 1 Macao airline using the airport. Now it is the major door for foreign travelers to get to mainland China. A convenient, comfortable and regular shuttle service operated by the civil aviation authority runs once every 30 minutes from the airport to downtown Beijing at a cost of 16 Yuan per person. Alternatively, taxis are available for approximately 120 Yuan to the city (not including suburbs).

    NanYuan Airport
    Around 15 km (about 9.3 miles) south of downtown Beijing, Nanyuan Airport is situated in the Fengtai District, and is closer to downtown Beijing than Beijing Capital International Airport is. Nanyuan Airport is a new and relatively small airport in China. With the development of the China Civil Aviation and, as the base of China United Airlines, Nanyuan Airport shoulders a yearly passenger flow volume of nearly one million. The airport offers air routes from Beijing to Wuxi, Dalian, Hohhot, Harbin, Chengdu and Hailaer , amongst other destinations. Passengers can take the comfortable airport bus to the downtown area, Xidan. Usually, the buses depart at 12:40, 17:10 and 20:50 from the airport to the downtown and at 06:00, 10:40 and 15:10 from downtown to the airport. The cost is about 16 Yuan.

    Train
    There are four railway stations in Beijing: Beijing Railway Station (in eastern Beijing), Beijing West Railway Station (in the southwest of the city), Yongdingmen Station (in the south) and Xizhimen Station (in the north). Beijing Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station are the major ones. The former runs mainly long-haul journeys such as Beijing to Baotou and Beijing to Shanghai or international trains including the lines directly to Moscow, Pyongyang and Ulan Bator etc, while the latter is the largest railway station in Asia. The trains in West Railway Station are mainly to the cities in southern or western parts of China. Tourists can get to the capital cities of every province, most major and medium-sized cities, and autonomous regions (excluding Tibet, Hainan and Taiwan) in China.

    Bus
    City public buses run from 5:30 till 23:00 daily.The flat rate for an electric car and ordinary public car is 1RMB. Buses equipped with air-conditioning or of special line are charged according to the distance.Minibuses, serving from 7:00 to 19:00, charge the flat rate of 2RMB guaranteeing a seat. They are faster and more comfortable.

    Subway
    The subway runs every 4 or 5 minutes daily from 5:00 to 22 or 23:00, according to different first stations and the fare is 3RMB per ride for any distance. There are two subway lines in Beijing: one runs under Chang'an Avenue and its line extends from Sihuidongzan in the east to Pingguoyuan in the west; another one circles under the northern part of the Second Ring Road. You can transfer between these lines at Fuxingmen station and Jianguomen station with no transfer fee.

    Taxi
    The taxi charges 10RMB for the first tour within 4 or 5 kilometers and 1.2, 1.6 or 2RMB thereafter per kilo. The bridge and road tolls will be paid by passengers. For a journey that takes longer than 10 kilo or running after 23:00, the fares will be charged at 50% more.

    Rickshaw
    The rickshaw is a traditional vehicle that was popular in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai nearly a hundred years ago. Now, modern rickshaw travel is an excellent way to experience old Beijing culture and Hutongs (alleyways). There are thousands of Hutongs in Beijing. The Shichahai area is the most famous one with a high density of traditional Hutongs. The rickshaws in Beijing are painted a golden yellow color. After paying an agreed fee, the rickshaw pullers will take you through the narrow lanes.Rickshaw rates are often higher than taxi rates especially during holidays for the busy traffic of automobile cars; bargain for an exact price prior to climbing aboard.
